San Francisco Traffic Company and Forensic Services Division Facility

Project overview

As part of San Francisco’s 2014 Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response Bond, the City constructed its new state-of-the-art Traffic Company and Forensic Services Division Facility to house the San Francisco Police Department’s Forensic Services Division and the City’s Traffic Company (motorcycle police). Vanir provided construction management support services for the project, which involved the demolition of four structures at the current site, construction of a new three-story, 100,000-square-foot building, as well as site and street improvements associated with the new development. The facility is comprised of:

  • Crime scene investigation
  • Computer forensics
  • Identification bureau
  • Photo lab
  • Body-worn camera exam laboratory
  • Crime lab (analyzes forensic DNA)
  • Testing labs (gunshot residue, controlled substances, breath/blood alcohol and trace evidence/fire debris)

Sustainable construction of emergency building

The building was designed to exceed City and County energy efficiency and sustainability standards and is currently awaiting LEED Gold certification. It was designed to remain operational in the event of future sea-level rise or a major disaster.
