Project overview
Vanir, as part of a joint venture (JV) with Parsons Corporation, is providing construction management and inspection services for a new Terminal B Pedestrian Walkway at Sacramento International Airport (SMF). This project marks the start of the SMForward Program, a major expansion initiative to support travel needs for the growing number of passengers. The new elevated, ADA-compliant walkway will connect Terminal B and Concourse B, providing an accessible alternative to the existing automated people mover. The project includes moving walkways, three distinct integrated art pieces in the building finishes, and a centrally located hub building to support future expansions.
As the County’s first CMAR initiative and the first project under the SMForward program, the walkway has required complex coordination among numerous stakeholders within a highly regulated operational environment. Aiming to minimize rework while supporting an accelerated schedule, the Parsons-Vanir JV provided solutions, including developing customized RACI, communication plans, and processes and leading collaborative work sessions.
Given the project’s high visibility and frequent interaction with the public and operations teams, the JV also developed a work plan and notification guidelines to manage activities that may impact these groups. Additionally, their scope of work has included commissioning and start-up, project closeout, inspections, and staff augmentation.
