Puget Sound Skills Center – Health Sciences Building

Project overview

Vanir’s project and construction management services led to the successful delivery of the new two‐story Puget Sound Skills Center (PSSC) Health Sciences Building, constructed adjacent to the current skills center facility that has been in operation for more than 40 years. The state‐of‐the‐art science facility supports health sciences education for Highline Public Schools (HPS) with learning environments to engage students, actively involve faculty and create spaces for collaboration across disciplines. Key features include:

  • A lecture hall that seats 250 students with an adjacent multipurpose space capable of seating an additional 200 occupants
  • A dental clinic operated by Sea Mar Dental in partnership with the HPS PSSC, with five operatories, a panoramic camera room, a sterilization center, office storage, reception and waiting area and staff lounge
  • A nursing assisting lab with four beds, equipment storage, laundry, office and classrooms
  • A biomed lab and classroom with storage and office space

Success of a multi-phased project

The project consisted of six phases and included right of way improvements at a street intersection that overlapped three permitting agencies for sign off and approval. No claims or time extension claims were submitted by the contractor, and the facility was completed to allow school operations to commence at the beginning of the 2017‐2018 school year as originally planned.
