Project overview
Vanir was hired to provide inspection services for the Port of Port Townsend for an emergency repair to a section of the breakwater near the entrance of the Boat Haven Marina. The project consisted of repairing a small section (550 feet) of the breakwater that was originally built in the 1950s. It has been determined that an attached 1,950-foot section, built in the 1960s, will also need to be repaired.
The project required working from a barge to deliver equipment, armor rock and materials, while not interfering with marine traffic in and out of the harbor. Due to tidal fluctuations, some of the inspections had to be completed during the night for the in-water rock placement.
Completed ahead of schedule
The rebuilding of the breakwater section from below water to final grade inspection was completed in five days, much earlier than the Port staff anticipated.
