Orleans Parish School Board Facilities Assessment

Program overview

Vanir is currently assisting Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) and the Recovery School District (RSD) with a comprehensive assessment to identify the condition of systems and materials that will affect the long-term performance and viability of the schools in Orleans Parish School District. Phase 1 of the project included an assessment of 49 schools (approximately 4 million square feet), and Phase 2 added 11 schools and 1.2 million square feet. In addition, Vanir performed a facility condition assessment for 28 other school campuses, which consisted of reviewing the construction documents and specifications for each campus.

Vanir’s assessment is being used to develop the District’s revised long-range master plan and prioritize resources. We are currently working with OPSB staff to establish baseline parameters and expectations. Our evaluation includes interior and exterior conditions of the buildings; health, fire, safety and security using Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED); ADA compliance; electrical, networking and voice communication; and HVAC.

Our work includes developing itemized costs, prioritizing recommendations from 2017-2027 and working with staff to establish ranking standards that are based on the severity of the deficiency by category.
