Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, Expansion #3

Project overview

In an effort to meet the high demand for jail beds in Riverside County, Vanir provided agency construction management services for the planning, design and construction of the maximum security facility at the site of the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility. The new 292-cell and 582-bed facility included the housing pod expansion, related support spaces and a new central plant.

Providing better service for the community

The state-of-the-art, high-tech facility was not only more cost effective, but was also designed to serve the public, staff and inmates better in a more secure environment.

Benefits include:

  • Easier Maintenance: Updated features and money saving designs, such as outside plumbing, eliminate the need to relocate inmates during routine maintenance
  • Efficient Staffing: Multiple cell blocks with centralized hubs allow for simultaneous surveillance of all inmates within the hub, while utilizing less staff
  • Safer Facility: Latest safety measures ensure protection of both staff and inmates
