Vanir, as a consultant to Rice & Gardner Consultants, Inc., is providing program management services for Houston Independent School District’s 2012 bond, the largest school bond proposition in Texas to date, to repair or replace 40 schools. In addition, our team is serving as the construction manager for four of the schools. Achieving LEED Silver is a minimum goal for each new facility in this program.
A portion of the bond funding is providing technology upgrades; safety and security improvements; replacements of regional field houses; renovations of athletic facilities; construction of new early college high schools; conversions of elementary schools into K8 campuses; significant middle school restroom renovations; and land acquisition.
Vanir’s program management services include staff augmentation, planning, design, estimating, bidding, construction, and closeout. Notably, we supervise the design consultants, confirming that projects comply with the District’s design guidelines, program requirements, project budget, and schedule requirements.
Under a separate contract, Vanir and Rice & Gardner completed a comprehensive survey of 286 schools for the District, focusing on the building security and safety of staff and students. Our final report included cost estimates to be used for prioritizing $88 million in projects, and phasing for the most critical needs of the facilities.
