Highline Public Schools – Des Moines Elementary School

Project overview

Vanir served as the program manager for Phase I of Highline Public Schools’ 2016 Capital Bond Improvement Program, which started in March 2017 and concluded in October 2021. Our team successfully delivered three out of four schools in this initiative.

One project in the program was the new Des Moines Elementary School, a K-5 facility designed for 700 students and situated on a 17-acre site. For this project, Vanir served as the project manager and construction manager, completing it on time and within budget for the 2019/2020 school year. The school met exceptional quality standards and sustainability goals, including compliance with the Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol (WSSP).

Meeting the challenges of impacted wetlands

Des Moines Elementary School was constructed on a sloped site with wetlands, requiring environmental permitting to be approved from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Vanir was instrumental in obtaining approval from the Army Corps in less than six months.
