Project overview
Vanir served as an advisor to Hays County for the new construction and renovation of its existing jail facility. All construction tasks were carried out while the jail remained operational, which required careful planning and execution to mitigate any disruptions to its ongoing operations. Our services included construction management and constructability reviews.
The new addition consists of:
- A 192-bed housing unit and 24-bed segregation unit
- Youthful offender unit housing with an additional 48 beds
- An 18,000-square-foot fleet/maintenance building
- An 11,700-square-foot training facility
- An infirmary and clinic, a new intake/release area and a sallyport
- A food service/kitchen area and a laundry facility
Renovation of the lobby, bonding and administration areas were made to house jail administration and the quartermaster, allowing for a new public visitation area and program spaces. Upgrades included security hardware, plumbing and HVAC. The existing sallyport was also converted to house the Crisis Negotiation Team bus and SWAT vehicles.
