California Independent Systems Operator Solar Power Generation Facility

Project overview

The Solar Power Generation Facility is a 755-kilowatt solar photovoltaic
(PV) power generation facility for the new Folsom, CA headquarters for California Independent Systems Operator (CAISO). Receiving LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, this project exemplifies CAISO’s commitment to the environment.

The facility is comprised of 3,616 modules and two different racking systems located at separate locations on the CAISO campus. To maximize available property space, while minimizing CAISO’s reliance on the local utility, Vanir designed a roof-mounted solar system on the Mission Critical Building and solar shade structures for the parking lot to provide shade for approximately 200 cars. The solar arrays also use high pressure sodium lighting fixtures to be compliant with LEED “Dark Sky” requirements.

A commitment to green

CAISO’s Solar Power Generation Facility is expected to save over a million annual kilowatts of energy use, reduce CO2 emissions by nearly two million pounds annually and improve air quality due to planting 4,500 trees around the Campus.
