The Vanir team was selected to provide construction management services for a new joint-use Southern Region Operations Headquarters for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire); the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES); and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS).
This certified LEED Silver facility is located on 12.5 acres immediately north of the March Air Reserve Base and coordinates resources and communications for any fire or other disaster located from Sacramento to the Mexican Border.
The project consisted of:
- Operations Coordination Center: 12,323 square feet
- Joint Information Center/Training/Classrooms: 7,119 square feet
- Administration/Offices: 28,267 square feet
- Other Buildings: 15,154 square feet
The construction work included demolition, all site work, off-site and on-site utilities, a vehicle wash station, a fuel island, emergency generators and a 130-foot steel communication tower.
Successful joint-use model
The new facility has co-located Cal Fire, Cal OES and USFS, a somewhat unique situation that is planned to be duplicated in northern California.
