CA Prison Health Care Facility Improvement Program

Program overview

Since 2004, Vanir has been providing master planning and program, project and construction management services for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation statewide program to ensure that constitutionally-adequate medical, mental and dental healthcare is provided for inmates at the 33 prisons. The program approach uses a defined and standardized clinical model, based on clinical utilization metrics and health standards being applied consistently to each prison.

Through collaborative discussions with the healthcare providers and managers, our team developed master plans, project level budgets and master schedules to upgrade the facilities to appropriate standards.

The project scope of each prison includes a combination of additions and renovations to existing structures and construction of new healthcare facilities. Improvements are being made to the medication distribution departments, primary care and specialty clinics, emergency services, health records, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, health screenings and healthcare administration.
