Dorene C. Dominguez, Vanir Chairman and CEO, has been appointed to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s state Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery. Dominguez will serve alongside four former state governors, Walt Disney Company Executive Chairman Bob Iger, Apple CEO Tim Cook and other prominent leaders from the public and private sectors. The 80-member Task Force will help chart an economic path forward in the wake of COVID-19. Set to meet virtually twice a month throughout 2020, the Task Force will work to:
- Mitigate the devastating short-term economic impacts of COVID-19
- Develop strategies to speed long-term business and community recovery
- Outline actions to support a cleaner, more equitable and prosperous future for all Californians
- Create solutions that emphasize the state’s existing strengths of diversity and innovation
“This pandemic has forced millions of Californians out of jobs – with the most vulnerable hit the hardest,” said Newsom. “While we have made significant progress in flattening the curve and increased preparedness of our health care delivery system, the actions taken have also impacted the economy, poverty and overall health care in California. We will use a gradual, science-based and data-driven framework to guide our re-opening timing while planning our economic recovery. I am honored that dozens of leaders in business, labor, health and philanthropy are stepping up to meet this moment by committing their time and talent to lift up all Californians. Through their leadership, and the leadership of California’s 40 million residents, I have no doubt we will emerge stronger from this crisis.”
Dominguez echoes Newsom’s sentiments and believes that the measures taken by California’s Task Force could be implemented nationwide.
“The economic effects of the COVID-19 health crisis have been deep and far reaching for California’s citizens, businesses and communities,” said Dominguez. “I am honored to have been selected to serve on Governor Newsom’s impressive and diverse Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery, and sincerely believe that this collaborative effort will be successful in guiding our state back toward economic growth and prosperity. It is my hope that the actions taken by the Task Force will not only aid in California’s recovery, but serve as a model for the rest of the country.”
