Project overview
Vanir provided project and construction management services for the demolition of Contra Costa County’s old administration building and jail. This project also included the construction of a new satellite administration building and public plaza area, continuing the County’s development goals of creating one unified civic campus and enhancing the downtown area along Pine and Escobar Streets.
- Administration Building B: The three-story, 61,555-square-foot satellite administration building houses various County departments and includes a parking garage with 74 spaces. Achieving 90% waste reduction through reuse and recycling strategies, such as reusing marble and wood paneling from the existing administration building, the building is certified TRUE Gold.
- Public Plaza: The 25,000-square-foot public plaza includes a series of outdoor spaces to enhance the downtown atmosphere and promotes the well-being of employees and visitors.
A TRUE honor
The project became the first government construction project in the world to achieve Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) Gold certification, upon its grand opening in July 2024. Administered by Green Business Certification Inc., the TRUE program encourages the adoption of sustainable resource management and waste reduction practices that contribute to positive environmental, health and economic outcomes.
