In early 2003, the UC Riverside Office of Student Affairs sought to revolutionize the way it provided support services for its students by adding a new administration building to the campus. Previously, students had to travel to four different buildings scattered throughout the campus to take care of their administrative needs.
The new Student Academic Support Services building is a three-story, 58,140 square foot building that allows students to take care of all their administration needs in one, centrally located building. The building houses student and professionally staffed departments that provide services related to admissions, enrollment, records, registration, fees and tuition, financial aid, recruitment, administrative technology and on-campus student support.
The core UC Riverside campus is characterized by a series of post-war, mid-century modern buildings that embrace their environment, project an eternal optimism, and are simply, but rationally composed. The Student Academic Support Services Building embraces this same spirit and occupies one of the last available parcels fronting the Carillon Mall – the focal point of the main campus. Since the new building is used by most every student, alumni and potential student, it also has an influence on many people’s overall impression of the campus and school.
The UC Riverside campus has adopted a standard that requires all new buildings to be constructed to a LEED Silver equivalency. The Student Academic Support Services Building was designed and constructed to meet these standards of environmental responsibility.
