San Diego Pipeline No. 6

A 7-Mile Addition

Vanir’s project management and controls support for the design and construction of this project helped to deliver it on time and within budget. The San Diego Pipeline No. 6 is a 30-mile conduit of pipelines and a tunnel that delivers water from the Colorado River and California State Water Project to Riverside and San Diego counties.

This project included the seven-mile North Reach Pipeline, which extends from Lake Skinner south to a service connection for the Rancho California Water District. This segment was constructed with 10-foot diameter pipeline.

Our Services Add Value During All Stages of Project

Vanir prepared and implemented key operating procedures and data formats for this project. We set-up and staffed a practical program document control system.

During the design phase, Vanir provided successful planning elements (cost estimates and preconstruction schedules), developed the management baselines, and produced periodic performance analyses and control reports. We were responsible for managing technical consultants’ costs, including preparation of budgets, estimating accrued costs and auditing invoices.

During the pre-construction phase, Vanir developed the Construction Management Plan and the Resident Engineer Operating Manual. We prepared the Engineer’s estimate prior to bid opening- almost exactly the amount of the low contractor bid.

Vanir assisted during the construction phase by preparing public outreach materials and providing key status graphics and reports that were particularly effective for field coordination and Board summaries.
