Kings County Jail Phase II

Project overview

The Kings County Jail faced severe overcrowding. The Phase II, 252-bed project was a critical expansion. It included approximately 67,000 square feet of additional housing, renovation, medical, intake and booking, programming and support services.

Vanir provided project and construction management services for the planning, design and construction of Phase II, followed by additional services for Phase III, and a renovation of the County’s existing adult detention facility.

Accelerated schedule and cost savings

Our assistance with the County’s state funding requirements led to the development of a master schedule that moved the construction start date from December 2014 to July of that year, resulting in significant savings in escalation and soft costs.

Vanir’s team…was instrumental in assisting the County with significant savings through programming, alternate jail design exercises, and estimate verification during the pre-design phase, without reducing building function and quality.
