Project overview
Vanir provided construction project management and commissioning services for the new Inland Empire Transportation Management Center (IETMC), a two-story, 43,000-square-foot building located on a 35-acre site. This “essential services” facility serves the San Bernardino and Riverside counties, and it consolidated the operations of the Caltrans District 8 Transportation Management Center and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Inland Division Dispatch.
Functions contained within the facility include traffic management, Freeway Service Patrol and central dispatch for both Caltrans and the CHP. The project included new parking for approximately 160 vehicles, landscaping, new on-site/off-site utilities, a 120-foot communications tower and communications equipment.
Constructability review delivers great results
Vanir managed an extensive constructability review process that consisted of a MEP peer review; reviews of the base isolator and damper system, commissioning and LEED; and a review of the Telecommunications Tower. It also included an interdisciplinary constructability coordination review at 90% construction documents. This effort reduced response time, increased collaboration across the project team and resulted in greater accountability by the design team and greater project control by the owner.
