Ground Breaks on St. Paul the Apostle New Learning Center and Gymnasium

Vanir recently celebrated the ground breaking of the St. Paul the Apostle New Learning Center and Gymnasium.  This $14 million project located in the Westwood area of Los Angeles, includes 36,000 SF of new construction adjacent to an active school and worship facilities.  Upon its completion, the facility will boast state-of art classrooms, media center, and indoor gymnasium. Benchmark Contractors, Inc. has been selected as the primary GC under a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) format.  Vanir Construction Management will be onsite managing the GC construction activity fulltime, along with other owner consultants and contractors.

Work began in June 2013 with demolition of an existing converted convent building to clear the way for the new building footprint.  Construction will consist of a two-story, steel frame structure ultimately housing nine new classrooms, two music rooms, a media center, office space, and gymnasium.  Additional site improvements include driveway widening and complete site repave.  Construction is anticipated to last 15 months with reoccupation taking place in August 2014.

The is a historic undertaking for the St. Paul the Apostle Parish in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  The community is excited, as evidenced by the project’s budget being funded almost entirely by charitable donations.  The last new construction project, the current church building, was completed in 1958.
