Riverside Avenue Bridge
Santa Cruz, CA

Vanir was selected, in joint venture, to provide construction management services for the $7 million Santa Cruz Bridge Project. The Santa Cruz Bridge is a four lane, 282-foot, poured-in-place box grinder bridge which spans the San Lorenzo River. This new bridge replaced the Riverside Avenue Bridge, in the same location that was damaged by floods in 1982 and later condemned due to damage caused by the earthquake of October, 1989.

The bridge foundation/structure was built using abutments and four piers which are supported by 262 precast concrete piles. Gabion baskets were placed on both the upstream and downstream sides of both abutment structures to provide bank protection.

This project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
