San Luis Coastal Unified School District Capital Outlay Program
San Luis Obispo, CA

Major Four-Phase Program
Vanir provided comprehensive program management services for the District's four-phase renovation, expansion and modernization program. Our services included a feasibility study, condition assessment, master planning, implementation plan, pre-design and design management, bid/award and construction management.

The scope of the first three phases involved modernization, renovation and expansion of 12 schools in four years. Most of the district's existing school space was upgraded, beginning with asbestos and lead abatement, ADA compliance, electrical rewiring, natural and energy-efficient lighting, and alarm systems.

The projects were constructed utilizing both the cm/trade contracting and single general contracting delivery methods. The strong partnership and working relationships of this program resulted in significant improvements to the various schools, increasing the amount of student recreational areas.

A Model Throughout California
This building program has become a model throughout the state of California. We were able to complete the pre-design, design and construction of each of the schools included in the Division of State Architect (DSA) approval in only two and a half years; this process can typically take as long as five years.

The entire program was completed within 3% of the budget and scope that was established during the feasibility study and prior to the commencement of design.
