Successful Delivery of LEED Certified Building
Vanir's assistance to the City of Tacoma in construction management and issue resolution
led to the successful completion of this high-tech police facility.
The three-story, structural steel building has large curtain walls and brick veneer. An atrium is a key feature of the building.
The facility houses operations, administration and short term detention. The enhanced security, data and communications in the building has increased the efficiency of these City functions.
As a LEED Certified building, many energy saving features were included in the project. Raised floors throughout the facility allow air flow to be beneath the floors, resulting in high energy efficiencies. The design allows the maximum amount of available sunlight into the building and includes a glass wall that optimizes daylight and enhances heating. Other environmentally friendly features include the use of low-emitting materials with no harmful off-gases from glues, carpets or laminates; waterless urinals to minimize water flushing; and native landscaping that will require minimal watering.
