The San Francisco General Hospital is a 185-bed secure, acute care facility. A local bond was passed in 1989 to build the new $20 million hospital and provide the county with adequate bed space and medical services. Construction of 100,000 square feet of the new two- and three-story buildings commenced in August of 1992.
Vanir provided construction management services for this project. Despite significant challenges during the construction of this facility, the project progressed with minimum impact to the schedule. These challenges included: starting construction during a very rainy winter, discovering burial remains from the early 1900s, and having to off haul 40,000 cubic yards of asbestos contaminated soil.
Vanir successfully negotiated change orders with the contractor, resulting in over $820,000 in savings to the owner.
