Vanir’s John Kuprenas Presents at AACE International’s 2008 Annual Conference!

Since 1956, The Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACE) has been the leading-edge professional society for cost estimators, cost engineers, schedulers, project managers, and project control specialists. With more than 5,500 members worldwide, AACE International is the largest organization serving the entire spectrum of cost management professionals. AACE International is industry independent and has members in 78 countries and 71 local sections.

Vanir’s own Dr. John A. Kuprenas, PE, was invited to attend and share his insight at the AACE’s 52nd Annual Meeting & ICEC's 6th World Congress on Cost Engineering, Project Management and Quantity Surveying in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The lecture John presented at the AACE conference, titled “The Influence of Quality on Construction Costs,” tests the truth of the construction industry paradigm that cost, schedule, and quality form a triangle and that increasing any one of these attributes will adversely impact the other two. Data for his study comes from traditional low bid, building construction work from the new construction program currently underway at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

Dr. Kuprenas is Vice President and Project Director for Vanir’s Southern California Region. He currently works as a consultant for the Los Angeles Unified School District’s $19.2 billion construction program where he serves as Senior Project Manager on the $570 million Central Los Angeles Area New Learning Center at the site of the old Ambassador Hotel. John is also a Research Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Southern California. His Research concentrations are computer applications in construction and construction processes, productivity, and quality. He is a specialist in productivity analysis and has developed microcomputer-based tracking systems for measurement and forecasting.

Dr. Kuprenas is a professional engineer with 20 years experience in construction engineering and management. His diverse background has included serving as construction manager, MIS manager, claims consultant and scheduler on a variety of educational, industrial and healthcare projects. His past experience includes project and program management of several public sector bond funded construction programs for the City of Los Angeles. His other areas of expertise include claims and change order management, construction control and scheduling as well as information processing and retrieval. John has been with Vanir since 1988 and we are proud to call him our own.
