Sound Transit Central Link Light Rail
Seattle, WA

Project Overview

As the major sub consultant to Bechtel, Vanir provided construction management services for the construction of 1.4 miles of light railway. The project was composed of at grade, aerial and transition structures; a rail station; and a light rail vehicle maintenance facility.

The scope of the project included major ground improvement work, utility relocations, and the construction of a high-voltage underground transmission.

A Congested Construction Site

The aerial structure crossed Airport Way South, 6th Avenue and the existing BNSF railroad in two places. The southern/eastern limit of the contract interfaced with the Beacon Hill light rail tunnel contract near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Airport Way South.

An Experienced Team

The operation and maintenance facility, yard, and support facilities were schedule-critical, as they were needed to receive commission, test and stable light rail vehicles. The Vanir team employed their extensive experience and expertise in order to make sure the project ran on schedule and to work around the complex construction site.
