Inland Empire Transportation Management Center (IETMC)
Fontana, CA

Project Overview

The Inland Empire Transportation Management Center (IETMC) was designed to house both Caltrans and CHP personnel. It provides intermodal, interregional and interagency traffic management services for the Inland Empire region, which includes the counties of San Bernardino and Riverside (Caltrans District 8). The Inland Division Dispatch for CHP will also be co-located in this facility with the building being constructed to meet the Essential Services Act criteria.

The IETMC site occupies approximately 10 acres within an approximate 35-acre state-owned parcel located in the southeast quadrant of the interchange of Interstate 15 (I-15) and State Route 210 (SR-210) in the City of Fontana. The building is a two-story, steel framed, base isolated structure with a total floor space of approximately 43,000 square feet. A 120 foot communications tower is also constructed on the site.

Successful Use of ConstructWare

Led by Vanir, the entire project team utilized ConstructWare during the course of the project. ConstructWare served as the main hub for project communication and a source for users to access all project documentation. This included: change orders, PCOs, RFIs, submittals, ASIs, FCDs, AE field reports, meeting minutes and recordings, daily reports, progress photos, plans and specs, and project directories. An additional benefit is that the entire project record was archived and will be turned over to the client on CD for their future reference.

Achieving a LEED Certification

Sustainable and energy saving features within the building include the use of natural rubber and recycled steel for the base isolators and viscous dampers, a building automated system managing the HVAC system, motion sensors for reduced water usage and lighting energy use, and a highly reflective cool roof.

IETMC was designed to achieve a minimum LEED® Silver rating, but has instead achieved LEED® Gold.
