Lawndale Elementary School District
Lawndale, CA

Project Overview

This was a reconstruction, modernization and expansion program that included a new elementary school, two middle school gymnasiums and several classroom building additions. The scope of work included classroom energy upgrades, ADA compliance upgrades to the restrooms and other required areas of the campuses.

Helping secure funding and reduce costs

The program was initially funded under a $26 million bond issue. Vanir worked closely with the district and the State Office of Public School Construction to identify qualified zone academic bonds, joint-use funding, and other supplemental funding. This resulted in added and matching funds, which expanded the program to more than $67 million. Vanir also managed an owner-controlled insurance program for Lawndale which saved money on each project by reducing worker’s compensation, liability, and builder’s risk insurance costs.

A satisfied client

During this effort, Vanir managed the construction of the AIA award winning Lucille Smith Elementary School and the Diane Bollinger Gymnasium and classroom addition for the district.
